Ned Visser

Food professional Ned Visser started, organized, and managed Gourmet Garage, a specialty foods store that The New York Times called, “A Working-Class Outlet for Fine Foods.” Founded in 1991, Gourmet Garage started as a wholesale distribution company servicing New York’s finest restaurants. The wholesale company opened its doors as a retail outlet in Manhattan in 1992, offering a wide variety of specialty, natural, organic, and traditional food items. The philosophy of the store was to offer to the everyday shopper the same high quality products that New York City Chefs demanded daily. By 1999, Gourmet Garage expanded and operated a 4-store chain with sales in excess of 30 million dollars per year.

Currently Ned is a partner at Yerba Project. Yerba Project brews 7 unique flavors of ready-to-drink Yerba Maté. Our Yerba Maté is always organic, never smoked, and never from concentrate.

Ned Visser was a co-founder and a food business veteran involved in the creation of Gourmet Garage in New York City, along with Arons, Adam Hartman, and John Gottfried. The company started as Flying Foods, a specialty food distributor, before opening its first retail store on Wooster Street in SoHo in 1992, and Visser helped build the business into a chain of gourmet food markets.
